Welcome to The Black Hues Society: Voices Across the Spectrum!
Through my podcast, "The Black Hues Society: Voices Across the Spectrum," I strive to inspire, support, and empower Black parents of adult children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). My journey is deeply personal—my son is a young adult with ASD, and I know firsthand the unique challenges and triumphs that come with this journey.
My mission is to foster a community where we can come together, share our stories, and feel truly understood.
For Black parents caring for our adult children with ASD, the challenges we face extend beyond the everyday demands of ASD. We navigate additional layers of complexity, from racial discrimination and healthcare disparities to systemic injustices. Many of us feel isolated or left behind, as the support networks we once had may no longer be there. We yearn for moments where we feel seen and supported, a safe space where no explanations are needed—where everyone just "gets it."
“The Black Hues Society:Voices Across the Spectrum” podcast seeks to be that sacred tribe.
Join me, Rosland Martin, a voice actor and mom of a young adult with ASD, as I delve into the nuances of autism, speak with experts, promote self-care, and create space for moments of solace and laughter.
